Well, tell me a little about yourself.

This is the most basic question, which looks easy at first sight. But, it’s not so. What attracted you to this job or why do you want this job?

Again, this looks a very easy question to answer but be careful. Explain the reason why you are here and why you find this job lucrative. Praise the company but do not overstate.

Why should we hire you?

Stay positive here. Do not hesitate to say that you are the best person for this job and you want to advance in your life. State some additional qualities you possess, what makes you different and suitable for the job.

Why did you leave your last job?

Take this question as the most important. This is the question that would decide you will be hired or not. If you fall in the temptation and start complaining about your previous job, you are not going to be hired anyway. Answer this with some diplomacy. Like, “yes, I had some minor problem with my previous but then it happens with everybody. You can disagree on someone’s views but that needs to be resolved.”

Can you work in a team?

Almost every person answers this in the same way and i.e. ‘yes’. You would also be saying the same. But the question is not only to be answered in yes or no. Give them some example of your role as team player so that you can prove yourself as a team player.

So, tell me about your long-term objective if we give you job.

State something positive here. For example, ‘I would like to be one of the best and responsible employees of this company.’

What do you know about this industry or this company?

Generally, this question is asked to test that you have done your homework or not. You are supposed to know something about the company or the industry. The latest development in the industry, if there is any, you should be aware of that. If some renowned persons are working in the company, you are expected to know their name and their achievement.

Would you like to ask anything about the company or us?

This is another basic question of an interview. Your answer should be ‘yes’. Ask something related to the company. It would make them feel that you are eager to work with the company. For example, where does the company stand in the market?
